No. However, it is the athlete's responsibility to make sure one is fit to compete in the triathlon. We suggest all athletes to visit a doctor 2 weeks to 1 month prior to the race and conduct heart function test, brain function test, as well as the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, etc. If any index is abnormal, please consult a doctor regarding the safety of participating in triathlon.
We do not require an athlete to show the Deep Water Swim Certificate, but it is the athlete's responsibility to know his/her ability to complete the open water swim in the race. We suggest all athletes to train with a group in open water prior to the race in order to get familiar with the environment. It is recommended that tor Sprint Distance, an athlete must be able to swim non-stop for 1200 meters in the pool. For Olympic Distance, an athlete must be able to swim non-stop for 2000 meters in the pool.
During the swim in the race, if you are feeling uneasy at any point, please raise your hand and catch the attention of the life guards for help.
The Beijing Tri 40 KM bike course is fun and challenging!
First 4 KM - Inside of the park, where some part is narrow with sharp turns. Please maneuver the turns carefully and watch out for the spectators.
4 KM - 12 KM - You will be riding on the wide and flat city boulevard.
12 KM - 16 KM - First climb; Narrow road; Fast downhill; Technical turns! You will be riding on narrow mountain roads. Please watch out for slow riders.
16 KM - 22 KM - Second climb - Qianling Mountain climb; 2-Way traffic; Watch out for slow riders.
22 KM - 26 KM - Fast downhill; No Passing Zone; Speed Limit - 56 KM; Watch out for sharp turns
26 KM - 28 KM - Flat city boulevard, watch out for spectators
28 KM - 33 KM - Narrow and winding roads in village; Fast downhill with technical turns; Slow down and watch out for spectators
33 KM - 40 KM - Flat city boulevard, enjoy the final part of the bike ride and get your legs ready for the run!
Basic race day insurance will be provided with your registration. However, it is recommend to purchase additional insurance.
This year, there are 2 race distances you can join, the Olympic Distance and the Sprint Distance. Two races will take place on 2 days.
- Sprint Distance (Saturday): 750 m Swim, 20 KM Bike, 5 KM Run
- Olympic Distance (Sunday): 1.5 KM Swim, 40 KM Bike, 10 KM Run
- The Olympic Distance race is open to professional triathletes, age group individuals, paratriathletes, relay teams, para teams, and Corporate Challenge teams. (View details)
- The Sprint Distance race is open to age group individuals. No Relay division for Sprint Distance.
Olympic Distance Race:
Swim: 1 hour after the last swim wave starts
Bike: 3 hour after the last swim wave starts
Run: 5 hours after the last swim wave starts
There is a check point at 16 km mark on the bike course, before the Qianling Mountain Climb. If you were not able to pass this point by 9:30 AM, you will turn back from this point and ride back to the Garden Expo. You will be able to complete the run course, but we will write down your bib number and your race result will be shown as “DNF”.
Sprint Distance Race:
Swim: 45 minutes after the last swim wave starts
Bike: 2 hours after the last swim wave starts
Run: 3 hours after the last swim wave starts
If you missed the cut-off time, you are not allowed to continue the race.
Water temperature: 23 C – 25 C single loop lake swim
Wetsuit is allowed, but not required for age group athletes
Water quality is tested monthly in compliance with the ITU open water swim course standard
Swim start format: Time-Trial Start - athletes jump into the water in small groups (about 10 people at a time), a few seconds apart. Dive Start is NOT allowed for Age Group athletes.
Floating device is not allowed.
Warm-Up Run: There is a 680-meter warm-up run from the Swim Exit to the Transition. No shoes allowed. This part mimics the unique warm-up run from the infamous Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon.
Road bike, Tri bike, and mountain bike
Fixed gear bike; foldable bike; bicycle from bike-sharing service
Basket and kickstand are not allowed and must be removed before the race.
Bar-end plug is mandatory.
Bike helmet - No helmet, no race.
Please check your bike before riding to make sure it is in safe condition.
During the race weekend, we will have onsite bike mechanics to help you with small adjustments.
During the race, no roaming mechanics on course. We highly recommend you to bring necessary tools with you and be prepare to switch tiers yourself in order to meet the course cutoff time.
Disk wheels and aero bar are allowed.
There is no aid station on bike course. Please bring your own water and nutrition.
